Wednesday night presents the first reunion between Gary Rowett and Derby County, ever since the manager’s departure from Pride Park to Stoke City in the summer.
The Potters are unbeaten in their last five league games but have won just one of their last six league outings – and the Staffordshire club currently sit 13th in the Championship, 8 points off the playoff places.
Rowett’s former club, Derby County, have bounced back well from a 3-0 drubbing at home to promotion rivals Aston Villa a fortnight ago – Frank Lampard’s men, who currently sit 6th in the Championship table, picked up a vital 2-1 win away at Sheffield Wednesday last week.
It’s bound to be a fiery affair between the two clubs, so what does Sky Sports pundit David Prutton predict? The former Sheffield Wednesday man has predicted a 2-0 win for the Rams.
“This is a big game for Gary Rowett, as he faces the side he left in the summer for the Potters – he clearly thought he would have a better chance of promotion with Stoke but it hasn’t quite worked out that way so far.”
“Frank Lampard would have had a long time to dwell on that defeat to Aston Villa, so full credit to Derby for bouncing back with a victory right after the international break – I fancy them to have too much energy for Stoke.”
The Rams have lost just one of their last eight league games, and will be looking to claim their 10th win of the campaign against Stoke.
It’s a huge game for both sides – Rowett will be desperate for a win against the club he walked out on at the end of last season, and Stoke have been solid of late.
Lampard’s men have been impressive away from home recently however, and I can see them nicking a win.
