Sky Sports EFL pundit David Prutton has suggested that Cardiff City will be able to make it back-to-back wins to continue their improvements when they travel to Preston North End on Saturday.

Preston head into the game aiming to get back on track following their disappointing performance in the 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest last time out before the international break.

That result had brought an end to a positive run of form for the Lilywhites that had seen them secure three wins from their previous four matches. That had included an excellent victory away from home against league leaders AFC Bournemouth as they inflicted a first defeat of the campaign on the Cherries.

Cardiff, meanwhile, head into the game looking to build on them finally bringing an end to a ten-match winless run in the Championship. That came with them securing a 2-1 win against Huddersfield Town to provide Steve Morison with his first victory in caretaker charge of the club.

Following that much-needed win, Cardiff have made the decision to hand Morison the managerial role on a more permanent basis until the end of the campaign. This means that he now has the chance starting with this game against Preston to build some real momentum.

Making his latest round of predictions for Sky Sports, Prutton suggested that Cardiff should have too much for Preston and be able to secure back-to-back wins under Morison. He believes they will be able to run out 2-1 winners.

He wrote: “Preston's position in the table may be a little bit deceiving. On the face of things they are hovering in lower mid-table, but such is the closeness of this league that they are actually much closer to the play-offs than the relegation zone.

“Steve Morison will be there until the end of the season for Cardiff now, with a remit to steady the ship. If he can impress you never know, and he could well make it back-to-back wins.”

The verdict

Securing all three points in this game would be massive for Cardiff and it would go a long way to moving them clear of any relegation worries. Morison has done very well so far in his short stint in charge of the club, but now the pressure is really on him with him being handed the job on a permanent basis until the end of the campaign.

This is a great chance for him to build on the Bluebirds ending their lengthy winless run in the Championship. Having got them back on track he now needs to ensure that they can put a run of results together. Mick McCarthy managed that when he took over partway through last term so it is possible with this squad.

Preston will be hoping that they can emulate the performance that they produced at Bournemouth a little more often between now and the end of the season. If they can do that then can be a match for any team in the league this season. A win here would see them climb the table even further.
