League One has a top-of-the-table clash on its books this weekend with Doncaster Rovers hosting Barnsley.

Both sides are in the hunt for promotion to the Premier League with the Tykes pushing for a place in the top two for an automatic return.

Rovers, meanwhile, are hanging on to the final play-off place and a win could go a long way to consolidating their position in the top-six, fending off competition from Peterborough.

Grant McCann’s men have one win in their last six matches, losing twice.

Daniel Stendel’s outfit are one of the form teams in the league and have not lost in 17 games, as they propelled themselves into second place.

This clash is certain to be one of the games of the weekend in the third tier.

Ahead of the meeting between the two sides, David Prutton once again offered his prediction to the outcome for Sky Sports, casting his eye on this particular contest.

The EFL presenter said: “Doncaster have been stuttering a bit in recent weeks and are without a win in five, but still find themselves in the play-off places ahead of the weekend.

“Playing on Friday night gives them a good chance to get the jump on their rivals, but Barnsley look so good at the minute it is hard to back against them, 1-2.”

The verdict

This is a pretty important game for both clubs as Doncaster look to consolidate their place in the top six.

Barnsley, meanwhile, are hoping to extend their lead over Sunderland – and closer to Luton if results go their way.

I think the result will go with the team in form and in a better position to win promotion to the Championship.

Tykes to take this one, and strengthen their grip on second place.
