Sky Sports pundit, Keith Andrews, described Cardiff's performance as 'too nice' after they were beaten comfortably by Reading on Sunday.

Neil Warnock's side failed to get going against Reading and lost heavily after two goals from Romanian George Puscas was followed by a clinical finish by John Swift.

It was a poor defensive display from the Bluebirds who lacked the steel they showed so often when they were last in the Championship. Warnock slated his defenders in his post-match press conference, saying that 'it has to improve' in the coming weeks.

Andrews wasn't impressed either. During the post match discussion on Sky Sports, he said: "Energy levels is an absolute minimum and I thought that was really lacking in the second half, and that surprised me.

"A very un-Warnock-like performance, a very unlike Cardiff performance that we’ve seen over the last two years, certainly in the promotion season, and I just hope for their sakes it’s just one of those one-off games where they’ve struggled to get it going.

"They’re going to have to learn that they have to play in different ways. But I felt they were a little bit nice today.

"Defensively - nowhere near. They’ve been so, so solid. Defensively, far too many gaps that Reading took advantage of."

Cardiff take on managerless Huddersfield on Wednesday night where they'll be looking to bounce back from Sunday's horror show.

The Verdict

Warnock has every right to be seething at his defence after a very poor display yesterday. Both Leandro Bacuna and Joe Bennett were caught out on the flanks too many times and they were made to pay.

At the same time, you can't take anything away from what was an excellent performance from Reading.

Andrews is right in terms of energy levels. It was odd to see a Warnock side play with such little energy or drive.

Andrews didn't mention Cardiff's failure to replace different players in the squad and with Kenneth Zohore, Bobby Reid and Victor Camarasa all at different clubs, there is perhaps a feeling amongst supporters that the side lacks the needed ability going forward.

It will be interesting to see how they bounce back against a struggling Huddersfield side on Wednesday, with both teams desperate for a victory.
