This weekend saw 37 goals being scored in League One. Teams were relegated and teams secured play-off positions during the weekend fixtures.
The weekends League One football was kicked off by Port Vale and Sheffield United on Friday night in a close fought match which saw 3 goals being share among the two teams. Thanks to some magnificent displays from both goalkeepers it took until the 51st minute for the deadlock to be broken when Louis Dodds scored to give Vale the lead. However, two late goals from Jamie Murphy (81st minute) and Chris Porter (90th minute) gave Sheffield Utd the win. The win saw Sheffield move up to 8th whilst Port Vale dropped to 9th.
Coventry City and Wolves played in a match which ensured safety for one club and a major milestone for the other. The first half proved to be a close fought affair with no major goalscoring opportunities going to either side. Instead it took until 6 minutes from time when David Edwards converted Bakary Sako’s cross. However, the lead lasted a matter of seconds when straight from kick-off Coventry’s Nathan Delfouneso pressurized Danny Batth who unfortunately put the ball into his own net. The game ended as a draw which proved to be the point that ensured Coventry’s survival in League One next season but it saw Wolves break the 100 point barrier.
Match of the day was a difficult decision but it went to Peterborough’s 4-2 victory over Shrewsbury. Jon Taylor opened the scoreline in the 6th minute only to have his goal cancelled out by Conor Washington in the 13th minute. Washington followed his goal with a second in the 21st minute and then Lloyd Isgrove doubled the lead in the 28th minute. Tom Bradshaw did manage to bring back the deficit to 1 goal in the 45th minute. In the 90th minute Shewsbury conceded a penalty that was missed by Britt Assombalonga but Josh McQuoid was there for the rebound which saw Shrewsbury get relegated into League Two.
