Some shrewd summer business has left Leeds United with an extremely strong squad heading into the 2017/18 season, with Thomas Christiansen often having a selection headache right across the pitch.

The likes of Samuel Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski and Pierre-Michel Lasogga have significantly improved the squad Christiansen inherited, which included talent like Pontus Jansson and Pablo Hernandez.

Leeds have made a strong start to the Sky Bet Championship season, and after 11 fixtures, Christiansen’s side find themselves sitting fifth in the table, with 20 points from a possible 33.

There have been a number of standout performers for Leeds so far, with Lasogga in particular proving his worth to Christiansen with some exceptional performances as the focal point of Leeds’ attack.

However, here at FLW, we have looked to name a five-a-side team from Christiansen’s squad, which has led to a number of notable exclusions.

Here is our best Leeds five-a-side team…

GK – Felix Wiedwald

Wiedwald has been criticised during recent defeats to Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday, with the German goalkeeper struggling to command his area.

However, in a five-a-side team, this should not be an issue, with shot stopping the thing that Wiedwald will have the most responsibility for.

The German has proved he can pull off impressive saves, meaning he is in ahead of Andy Lonergan.

CB – Pontus Jansson

Jansson is defensively sound, but also impressive when in possession, which will be vital in a game of five-a-side.

The Swedish defender is not blessed with great pace, but his ability to read the game makes him an excellent option as the last line of defence.

CM – Ronaldo Vieira

Vieira has found his opportunities limited at Elland Road this season, with Kalvin Phillips and Eunan O’Kane proving to be Christiansen’s first choice in the Championship.

However, the 19-year-old’s ability is still there for everybody to see, and his energy in this team will be vital.

Vieira will help Jansson out defensively, whilst also support the attack.

AM – Samuel Saiz

It was hard to choose between Saiz and Pablo Hernandez in the attacking midfield role, with both sharing similar qualities.

Saiz has shown during his short time at Leeds that he has the skill to unlock Championship defences, whilst also showing he can cope with the physicality of English football.

In a game of five-a-side, defenders would struggle to contain Saiz.

ST – Kemar Roofe

Skilful forward Roofe edges in ahead of £1.8m-rated Pierre-Michel Lasogga in our team, with a game of five-a-side suiting the former Oxford man’s qualities.

Roofe is clever in tight situations, whilst Lasogga’s physical presence is not particularly needed.

The 24-year-old also has an eye for goal, and has found the back of the net on six occasions already this season for Christiansen’s side.
