Aston Villa host Cardiff City tonight in a potential automatic promotion decider at Villa Park. Seven points separate the two sides, but a win either way would be seriously detrimental to the losing team.

Cardiff have the upper hand and with a game in hand too, they look best placed for the final automatic Premier League spot. However, with Fulham breathing down their necks, a draw or defeat could see them concede their top two place by the end of play.

It is all incredibly exciting, a fitting climax to a thrilling and unpredictable Championship season. The two sides have both been excellent, showing immense promise with talented groups of players performing at their very highest levels.

Which players would get in a combined side from Villa and Cardiff though? The Bluebirds strength comes from a togetherness and spirit, perhaps more so than Villa who rely on lots of exciting individual talents.

How could we ever set a combined side out, would it be a three man central defence like Cardiff play, or would we work the two Icelandic midfielders into a more attacking minded side? Here at FLW we attempt to put together the best combined Villa and Cardiff XI.

Let us know you thoughts below.

Johnstone has been on great form this season but having conceded more goals than his Cardiff counterpart, I'm giving him the push.

Neil Etheridge is a strong keeper who has the benefit of an incredibly mean defence in front of him, something he'll need next season if they're a top flight club.

The 30-year old has been in great form for Villa this season and offers an attacking threat as well as sound defensive cover.

He gets up and down the line with real presence, but is also incredibly consistent which would be crucial in the four-man defence we're going with here.

Bennett has shown great character to bounce back from the Leroy Sane incident and, as a former Villa player, his inclusion makes perfect sense.

When Neil Warnock drops you and you still have the courage to fight back and regain your place, I think you have a real heart and that makes him a shoo-in at left back.

He might have been a naughty boy recently, but Morrison is a class defender and one of the integral parts of Cardiff's surge up the table.

How on earth could you leave this man out when he's doing it week in, week out for the Bluebirds? The answer is, you couldn't.

The 29-year old former Manchester United man has been excellent this season for Villa and he grabs the final spot in the defence.

I think him and Morrison would make a great pairing, Chester is definitely one of the Villa players who is Premier League quality.

It might surprise some to see I'm plumping for a 4-1-4-1 formation, but Cardiff like to play five at the back, Villa like to have a holding midfielder so I had to include at least one.

Bjarnason has been one of the surprise packages of the season at Villa Park and he'll carry that forward into the World Cup.

It seems sensible whilst we have the option of pairing the two Icelandic stars that we do so. Gunnarsson might have been on the side lines this season thanks to his injury, but he's a wonderful player destined for the top flight, one way or another.

I think he'd link up well with his fellow countryman in the centre of the park.

The final central midfielder I'm going for has to be Jack Grealish. He's versatile, can get forward and assist but also has that touch of class needed to change a game.

He's been playing in an advanced midfield role this season and he'd sit nicely alongside Gunnarsson.

How could we not pick Adomah on the flank? He's got a phenomenal amount of goals for Villa this season and he's a creator too.

Perhaps Cardiff fans might feel aggrieved that there's more Villa in here, but as individuals they do stand out.

Callum Paterson has been grabbing goals for the Bluebirds from the flank and he'd slot in nicely alongside the other three in a strong looking midfield.

He's got youth on his side and a really exciting future in the English game.

He's barely played this season, but if he's fit and on form he is the best attacker the two teams have between them.

He'll get fifteen to twenty a season when fit and has already proven himself at this level.
