Plymouth Argyle have had a tricky few years in English football, but they'll be relieved and delighted that they have gained promotion into League One this season under the guidance of Ryan Lowe. 

With the summer transfer window round the corner, new signings will be on the mind of the Argyle hierarchy.

West signed a one-year deal with Plymouth Argyle in July 2005, and is remembered as one of the worst signings the club has ever made.

He only featured in five games and made minimal impact before having his contract terminated by the club just three months later.

West is surely up there with the worst ever signing that the club have made in their history.

Nadir Çiftçi has certainly made an impact up in Scotland with the likes of Dundee United and Celtic, but that wasn't the case in his time with Plymouth Argyle.

He made just seven appearances in his loan spell with the club, but didn't score a single goal, much to the frustration of the club's supporters, who would have had high hopes for him when he first signed.

Arguably the most hated former Plymouth player to ever play for the club.

Swan wasn't popular with some of his team-mates at the time, and infuriated the club's supporters by admitting that he only signed for them for the money.

A waste of time, money and effort from the club with this deal.

Mpenza signed for Plymouth Argyle in September 2008 after being released from Manchester City.

He arrived with high hopes from the club's supporters, but failed to settle in his time with the club.

Mpenza made just nine appearances and scored just twice for Argyle, and wasn't offered a new deal after struggling with a number of injury problems.

Griffiths become a professional football at the age of 32 after signing for Plymouth after a 'successful' trial period with the club.

He has previously a firefighter, and struggled to adjust to the demands of English football with Argyle.

His time with the club was blighted with a number of injury problems before leaving to join Newport County in 2013.

Church signed for Plymouth in January 2018, but had a spell to forget with the club.

The Welshman had an impressive CV to his name after spells with the likes of Reading and Charlton Athletic, but didn't hit the ground running with Plymouth.

He made just two appearances for the club before a hip injury forced him to retire from football.
