John is probably the club's most famous supporter - having owned the club twice, the first time from 1976 to 87 and then repurchasing it the ten years later until 2002.

During Sir Elton's days at the club, he appointed Graham Taylor who led the club on their famous rise to the top tier of English football in 1982 and guiding them to play-off glory at Wembley Stadium in 1999.

The Musician and long-life Hornets supporter called the striker from Los Angeles, Deeney told the Watford Observer, "A lot of people I thought didn't have my number have got hold of my number,"

"I've had a few nice messages. Steve Evans from Rotherham messaged me to say all the best.

"I was in the car on Monday with my mum and Elton John phoned me. That was a very surreal moment. My mum was buzzing as well, because he's obviously a legend and he was talking to her son.

“He passed on his best wishes. He's a little bit busy so he can't come to the last game - he's got a gig.

“He is going to sing out a few of his jingles to the people who will watch him and hopefully he will be there for the first game of next season, hopefully.

“He was buzzing too and he said some really nice things that I would prefer to keep between me and him.

"He generally passed on great messages to everyone. It was a nice touch. Up until he came to open his stand, I didn't even know he knew who I was so it was good fun."

Deeney recently became the first player in the club's history to score 20 plus goals in three consecutive seasons and the club captain has helped the club on their way to the top flight for the first time since 2005-06.
