Hull City have parted ways with manager Leonid Slutsky following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Russian manager, who took control in the summer, guided the Tigers to just four wins from twenty Championship matches, and leaves the club with just three points separating the former Premier League side from the bottom three.

Hull were relegated from the top flight last season, and the appointment of former Russian and CSKA Moscow boss Slutsky was considered a real coup by the club’s Allam owners.

Slutsky led Russia during the 2016 European Championships, and was the first Russian manager ever to find employment in the English game.

Former Southampton and Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins is the favourite to take over at the KCOM Stadium.

The Verdict

Disappointing, but Slutsky simply had to go.

Hull have been a strange side to watch this season, scoring lots of goals and taking the lead on numerous occasions, but failing to see out games due to a shoddy defensive record.

The club have the third best attacking record in the division but the joint worse defensive, and this has restricted them to their lowly position this season.

Giving up eighteen points from leading positions has been an issue Slutsky has failed to address, and the manager will accept that his position at the club had become untenable.

If the new manager, whoever it may be, can solve Hull’s frailties at the back, then they should begin to climb up the table.
