The Queens Park Rangers faithful will have been dreading the news they received earlier today as it was confirmed that Nahki Wells has now returned to Burnley after having his loan spell at the west London club cut short.

Wells had been in stunning form for the club this term, notching an impressive goal tally of 13 goals in 26 games for the R's, forming what has been a fruitful partnership with Jordan Hugill for Mark Warburton's side.

The striker's future is now seemingly up in the air, with clubs around the Championship said to be queueing up to secure the player's signature on a permanent deal this month.

It is clear that Wells will no doubt cherish the spell he spent at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium after becoming something of a fan's favourite, with the former Bradford City striker posting a simple message of appreciation for the club via Twitter earlier today:

Wells has been linked with a move to both Nottingham Forest and Bristol City in recent days and a decision on his future is expected to made this week by Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

The Verdict

Only time will tell whether we will see Wells back in a QPR shirt or not, with it still remaining a distinct possibility that the 29-year-old could well make a permanent move to west London.

Competition is understandably fierce for the forward's signature after his eye catching performances for the R's and it now seems that a bidding war could ensue for the Bermudan front man.

QPR will now be seeking to secure a replacement for Wells, with the player's departure sure to put a dent in their hopes of making the play-offs come the end of the season.

Meanwhile, the inconsistent Rangers side will be seeking to bounce back from the disappointment of exiting the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday last Friday by picking up a positive result away to fellow play-off chasers Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.
