Simon Grayson has enjoyed a relatively decent start to his life as Sunderland manager, picking up two draws and a win in his first three league games.

The former Preston North End boss moved to Sunderland in the summer and has been tasked with getting the Black Cats back to the Premier League.

Despite losing some key players, Grayson has been shrewd in the market and decided to pick players with Championship experience to guide his side to promotion contention.

In the final couple of weeks of the transfer window, Sunderland will try to add at least one or two more faces to their squad to ensure they are well-equipped for a promotion challenge.

So far, Grayson has snapped up Aiden McGeady, who was a star man for him at Preston last season, and he has also targeted Jordan Hugill of Preston.

However, there is another Preston player that should be on his radar.

Ben Pearson goes under the radar as one of the stars at Preston.

The central midfielder is tidy in possession and tenacious out of possession; he keeps things ticking along and breaks up the opposition's attacks.

After joining Preston permanently last January, Pearson has already played over 50 games for the club and the former Manchester United trainee is a proven Championship performer.

The 22-year-old is still so young and has scope to improve - he will surely be a Premier League one day soon.

Sunderland need someone to run their midfield and the former England under-20 international would a real investment for the future.
