Simon Grayson has certainly began his era at Sunderland with a positive, energetic boost which is what the Black Cats needed to solidify their future and have a prospective long-term strategy.
Relegated from the Premier League following the climax of last season, the Wearside outfit are surely aiming to regroup as a team before mounting a push to return to the top-flight.
This Sunderland squad needs a breathe of fresh air and experience from the Championship, which is exactly what Grayson would gain by swooping for the services of Brentford’s £1.28 million-rated midfielder Ryan Woods.
At the age of 23, Woods began his progressive career at Shrewsbury Town and his impressive displays for the League One outfit meant his current club came sniffing, and subsequently put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.
Since then, the defensive midfielder has committed his future at Griffin Park until 2020, but this most definitely should not be a hurdle for Sunderland if they were to make a move for his name.
He was a regular feature in Dean Smith’s starting eleven throughout the 2016/17 campaign, playing in all but one Championship outing, and it is those consistent performances that have surely caught the eye of Simon Grayson.
Ryan Woods would be a tremendous investment at Sunderland and he would mould nicely into the long-term plan for the current boss; it is literally a no brainer for Sunderland if they aim to one day commit to progression rather than regression.
Sunderland supporters, does your midfield need a breathe of fresh air? Would Ryan Woods cover that? Will £1.28 million be enough to capture his signature? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
