Ex-Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has predicted that midfielder Kalvin Phillips will be sold if Leeds aren’t promoted this season.
Grayson was in charge at Elland Road for little over thee years, overseeing 169 games in charge and winning promotion to the Championship in 2010.
He’s since had spells with Huddersfield, Preston, Sunderland, Bradford and most recently Blackpool, from which he was sacked in February this year.
A popular figure among Leeds fans, but Grayson has made a bold prediction that Phillips could leave Elland Road this summer if Leeds aren’t promoted.
Speaking to the Daily Star, he said:
“He’s a fantastic midfielder and it’s quite simple – if Leeds don’t get promoted then he’ll be sold.

“If they go up, then he stays. He’s got the qualities to play for a top-six team. He’s good on the ball and likes a tackle, but he’s still mobile and can get up and down the pitch.
“We’ve seen players go from the Championship to the Premier League and thrive. He could be one of those that just grasps the opportunity.”
Phillips, 24, has been Leeds’ standout player this season. The midfielder has featured 31 times in the Championship and has asserted himself as one of the best players in the Football League.
Liverpool have shown an interest in signing him, but his future very much depends on Leeds’ season fortunes – or so Grayson believes.
Leeds sit in 2nd-place of the Championship, and the touted points-per-game finale to the campaign would see them into the Premier League.
Only six points separate Leeds from 3rd-place Fulham though, and with 27 left to play for, Marcelo Bielsa could well be denied another promotion with the Yorkshire club.
Phillips is destined to be a Premier League player. He’s proved this season that he’s ready to make the step-up and he likely will in the summer – whether or not it’ll be with Leeds though remains unseen.
Fans will be fearing for the worst if they miss out on promotion again, and Phillips could well be followed by many more if that’s the case.
