Simon Grayson has confirmed his side are ready to spend some cash after seeing Marc Bola join Championship side Middlesbrough.

As reported by the Blackpool Gazette, Bola made the switch to Jonathan Woodgate's side over the weekend, a move which will allow Grayson some room to work in the transfer market.

The former Leeds boss confirmed that he's spoken to owner Simon Sadler, who has led him to believe he'll be able to reinvest the profit they've made on Bola.

"After I spoke to Simon Sadler he made it clear that for any players sold, the money will come back into the pot for the signing of new players,” he said.

“That’s the case whether it’s free transfers and paying wages or going out and paying more money for players. We’ve seen already Ryan Hardie coming in for a decent amount of money for a club like ours, but over the next few weeks you never know what might happen with others."

That's bound to raise the pulse of Tangerines supporters, who were braced for Bola's exit following the capture of James Husband last week. Grayson admitted he wouldn't have agreed to the sale of the former Arsenal man if he wasn't happy with the reward.

“We wouldn’t have sold Marc had we not been happy with the fee, we don’t give good players away for the sake of it."

The 21-year-old only moved to Bloomfield Road last summer but had a stand-out season for the Seasiders, capturing the attention of a number of clubs. Brentford had been linked with a move, but Woodgate's Boro managed to beat them to his signature.

The Verdict

Is Grayson really as naive as to put a statement out like this? I'm staggered. What would you be thinking if you were a selling club and you saw his name come up on your mobile phone? You'd know they've got a few quid to spend and instantly your asking price creeps up.

It's the same with agents, they can stick a bit on their fee, or their player's demands, knowing Grayson has all-but promised to spend, spend, spend. How very naive of the former Sunderland boss.

It's not a bad thing he has the money, on the contrary, it's very good for Blackpool fans to know they can make a decent signing or two. Just try to play it down a bit maybe? Pretend you've not asked for it or something; anything other than this.
