Simon Garner is a name that will still mean a lot to all fans of Blackburn Rovers, especially those of a certain age.

The striker rose through the ranks at Ewood Park, joining the club in 1978 at a young age, he went on to become a hero for the club making over 460 appearances.

He was unfortunately relegated to the third division in his first season with the club but helped them earn an immediate return back to the second-tier at the first attempt.

In total, he scored 194 goals for the club, becoming their all-time top scorer, a title he still holds to this day, before he moved on to West Brom in 1992 after 14 years at Ewood Park.

He retired in 1996 after underwhelming spells with Wycombe Wanderers and Torquay United before his life hit a slightly rocky patch.

Whilst going through a divorce, Garner found himself in prison after being found guilty of contempt of court but was later released on appeal.

Unlike many former footballers, the striker did not choose to go down the path of coaching or punditry, instead, having spells as a mortgage salesman and as a postman.

But where is he now?

After failing to fall in love with mortgages or other people's post, Garner became a painter and decorator after a friend offered him a job with him.

He has now been self-employed in the profession for over ten years and he seems to be enjoying his current occupation.

"I didn’t dwell on the career change too much," he told the Guardian in 2015.

"I had to get on with my life and earn some money. Having more freedom was very welcome.

"When you’re playing football, you can’t do anything for the eight months of a season."
