Chelsea are preparing to confirm their decision to recall midfielder Conor Gallagher from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic, according to football.london.

Gallagher has been thriving with the Addicks since joining on a season-long loan deal over the summer, but the midfielder is now training with the Chelsea first team after the Blues exercised their right to recall the player, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The 19-year-old has been an integral player for Lee Bowyer's side during a testing first half of the Championship season - with Gallagher having made 26 appearances in midfield for the South London side - but they will now need to find a replacement.

It is being reported that Gallagher will train with the Blues' first team today with discussions set to take place in the next 24 hours regarding another loan move with the likes of Swansea, Millwall and West Brom all thought to be interested.

Gallagher is regarded highly at Stamford Bridge after being named the club's Academy Player of the Year last season, and it now seems the Blues are keen to see the teenager test himself in a different environment for the remainder of the campaign.

Plenty of Chelsea supporters have taken to Twitter to respond to this development in Gallagher's situation, with many of them questioning the club's decision to recall Gallagher when he was receiving regular minutes while thriving in the Addicks' midfield.
