West Ham outcast Jordan Hugill is being linked with a move to west London to join Queens Park Rangers.

However, it is hard to see that Hugill will make too much difference to a poor R's side.

Frozen out at the London Stadium after making next to no impact in East London, Queens Park Rangers are leading the chase to land the striker.

However, under a manager who has failed in his last jobs in England and with a squad that needs strengthening all over the park, Hugill will not do enough to solve the problems at Loftus Road.

Key player Alex Smithies has joined Neil Warnock's Premier League Cardiff City. Alex Smithies was one of the best keepers in the Championship, who had excellent reflexes and distribution, so getting a goalkeeper of his standard to join Steve McClaren's side will be a tough ask, but it must be a major priority for McClaren

There is no doubt that the R's need to improve their strike force, with Matt Smith and Conor Washington both having disappointing seasons last time out.

Matt Smith was the top goalscorer with 11 goals, whereas Washington found the net just six times in a a very below-par season for the forward.

Hugill's record does not indicate that he will be the answer.

Target man Hugill's best ever return in a Championship season was 12 goals, which is a decent return without being prolific.

Hugill may be a solid signing in the long run, but certainly not the 'wow factor' signing R's fans will be hoping for to lift the mood at Loftus Road.

McClaren must move to bring in some genuine pace out wide, and some much needed creativity in midfield.

If the recruitment at Loftus Road isn't up to standard, it is easy to see the R's getting dragged into a relegation battle.
