It was a disappointing season for Ipswich Town who will be hoping for better things this year.

The Tractor Boys finished 16th in the Championship table and flirted with relegation for most of the year, thankfully ending up well clear of the drop zone.

The club will hope to make the right additions towards moving well away from lower mid table obscurity and well up the table, perhaps with hope of breaking into the top six.

However the fans at Portman Road have grown frustrated in recent years at the lack of investment in their squad, and that doesn’t look set to change this summer, although they have splurged £1 million on Rangers striker Joe Garner.

With their stringent transfer policy looking as though it will remain consistent this summer, Mick McCarthy should look to bring in Sammy Ameobi.

Ameobi was released by Newcastle United at the end of last season. He spent half of last season on loan Bolton Wanderers, and played a pivotal role in their side during that six months.

He’s a strong, powerful winger with plenty of pace, something that this Ipswich severely lack with Grant Ward the only player with those kinds of exciting attributes.

Bolton appear to be the only other side prepared to make an offer for him, and you would think there’s a greater chance of them suffering relegation than Ipswich, so Ameobi should be more than happy to link up in East Anglia.

Signing Ameobi would give Ipswich something that they severely lack in their squad, and the fact that he is available for free means this move makes sense.

Ipswich fans… What do you make of this? Should young sign Ameobi? Let us know in the comments below.
