Phil Parkinson is set to remain as manager of Bolton Wanderers if Football Ventures' proposed takeover of the club is completed, Sun journalist Alan Nixon has revealed.

It was announced on Monday by the club's administrators that Football Ventures have been confirmed as the preferred bidders to take over at the University of Bolton Stadium, and it appears that preparations for next season's League One campaign are now starting to take shape.

According to Nixon, those preparations will see Parkinson remain in charge at the club for the time being, with chief executive Paul Aldridge also expected to remain at the club.

Parkinson was originally named Bolton manager three years ago, and guided the club to promotion from League One in his first campaign in charge of the club.

After avoiding relegation on the final day of their first season back in the second tier, Wanderers suffered a dismal campaign last season both on and off the pitch as they were relegated with little much of a whimper while also entering administration following the club's long running financial problems.

Bolton are set to start next season on minus 12 points after entering administration, and currently have just 13 first team players on their books with less than a month until the start of the new season.

The Verdict

In a way this seems like a sensible move from Bolton.

They don't have much time until the start of the season, and with the squad already down to the bare bones, it makes sense to focus on putting together a group of players capable of putting together a convincing campaign in League One next season.

Having been around the club for several years now, you also imagine that Parkinson is in a strong position to know just what the side needs in order to compete at that level next season.

Given his success in League One during his first season with the club, you imagine that Parkinson is capable of putting something together to give the club a chance of keeping out of trouble, although the current situation means that another promotion is almost certainly out of the question.
