Charlton's new ownership group East Street Investments are interested in securing the services of loanee Josh Cullen on a permanent transfer from West Ham, according to South London Press.

Cullen is currently enjoying his second season-long loan stint at The Valley after playing a key role in Charlton's promotion last term, and he has once again been a regular in Lee Bowyer's side's midfield this campaign.

The 23-year-old is currently sidelined with an ankle ligament injury he sustained during the match against Cardiff earlier this month, but he played every minute of league action before sustaining this blow as he formed a strong midfield pairing with fellow loanee Conor Gallagher.

It has now emerged that Charlton could attempt to move for Cullen on a permanent deal once the club's takeover is complete, with Charlton releasing a statement last week which confirmed ESI have agreed to buy the club from Roland Duchatelet.

South London Press then reported that the new ownership groups key priorities are to hand new contracts to Lee Bowyer and Lyle Taylor, and it now appears a transfer swoop for Cullen is also on their agenda.

The West Ham academy graduate has now made 48 appearances since joining Charlton in the summer of 2018, while he has scored two goals and registered seven assists during this time.

The Verdict

Cullen has been one of Charlton's most consistent performers since his arrival at the club, and supporters will find it hugely encouraging that ESI are keen to now secure his services for the foreseeable future.

The 23-year-old offers an assured presence on the ball as he regularly dictates play from the centre of the park, while he also offers defensive qualities with his all-round midfield talent.

It would a positive forward-thinking step if Charlton were to push for Cullen on a permanent transfer, but I do fear they may find it difficult given that West Ham will surely want to give him an opportunity in their first team at some stage.
