Leeds United have sacked Jesse Marsch from his role as the club's head coach after a seven-game winless run in the Premier League.

Carlos Corberan is the frontrunner to replace the American in the dugout at Elland Road according to 90min.com.

The Spaniard was previously assistant manager of the Whites under Marcelo Bielsea, leaving to take up the top job at Huddersfield Town in the summer of 2020.

Corberan performed minor miracles to finish third with the Terriers in the second tier last season, losing out to Nottingham Forest in the play-off final despite controversially not being awarded a penalty on two separate occasions.

Corberan had a brief spell as manager of Olympiacos after resigning from Huddersfield in the summer, but has returned to the Championship since to take West Bromwich Albion from relegation contention to the play-off picture.

Leeds still look back very favourably on Bielsa's time at the helm, despite sacking the former Chile manager last season, and Corberan's connection to that successful regime would likely strike the right note with the club's supporter base.

Marsch produced some memorable results in his time at Elland Road and was able to save them from relegation last season, but Corberan appears to represent a more dependable and consistent approach that supporters may be craving after what has been a somewhat erratic tenure from the former RB Leipzig manager.

The Verdict

Olympiacos was a bump in the road and Corberan has gone on to prove himself once again this season, with a West Brom squad that was not performing close to the levels that they are now under Steve Bruce.

The Spaniard fits the modern profile of coach, clearly very meticulous in his preparation and tactically flexible, while capable of coming in and assessing the best way to get results out of the squad in place at Leeds.

Everton beating Arsenal at the weekend would have struck fear into clubs like Leeds, who were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest on Sunday, and are now only above the relegation zone on goal difference.
