Middlesbrough are not pursuing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose anymore according to the Northern Echo.

It was previously reported by the Daily Mail that Boro were plotting a season-long loan move for the full-back, who has struggled for regular game time with Spurs.

Rose spent last year's campaign on loan with Newcastle United, and made 13 appearances for the Magpies as they finished () in the Championship table.

Middlesbrough are currently sat tenth in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can build on some strong performances under the management of Neil Warnock.

The report from the Northern Echo claims that Boro are in talks with Chelsea defender Baba Rahman over a loan deal before the summer transfer window closes on Friday at 5pm.

Warnock is evidently keen to add to his squad before the transfer window does close, with it being reported that the Boro boss is looking at another defensive option.

Middlesbrough are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on high-flying Reading, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Neil Warnock's side.

The Verdict:

This would have been a real coup.

Rose is a player that has played the majority of his career in the Premier League, and I think it would have been a sizeable step down if he moved to a club in the Championship.

I'm not surprised that they're not pursuing a move for him though, as I think it would have been a waste of time as I couldn't see him moving to Middlesbrough to be honest.

Rahman would be somewhat of a risky signing, as he's struggled to stay fit in recent seasons, but could be worth the punt, as he'll be eager to prove himself in English football.
