Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna has told the club he wants to leave amid interest from Championship side Queens Park Rangers, according to West London Sport.

QPR have already seen two bids rejected for the Scotland international's services, and this has now resulted in McKenna forcing the issue with his current employers.

The Rs' first offer was reportedly in the region of £3million, while their second attempt to sign the 22-year-old saw the West London club offer a slightly higher fee with "potentially sizeable add-ons".

The Dons' boss Derek McInnes has claimed QPR will need to make a significantly higher bid for McKenna, who made 25 appearances in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Mark Warburton's side are one of numerous clubs showing an interest in McKenna this summer, with Nottingham Forest also thought to be pursuing the Aberdeen academy product.

The verdict

McKenna handing a transfer request means Aberdeen have little choice but to sanction a move for the defender, as it is only worth having players at the club who want to be there.

It would be a huge blow for last season's fourth-placed side to lose McKenna's services, but they must now look to actively negotiate his exit following this revelation.

The 22-year-old would be a fantastic addition to QPR's defence and he would slot in nicely alongside Yoann Barbet at the back, so I would expect QPR to step up their pursuit of him this week.

It would be a big statement of intent if QPR can land the defender ahead of Championship rivals Nottingham Forest. Rs supporters can then start feeling optimistic about their chances this season, particularly following the 2-1 victory over Stoke City on Saturday.
