Peterborough United's Marcus Maddison has been put on the transfer list after the club failed to win promotion to the Championship this season.

The 24-year old attacking midfielder has been a key man for the Posh over the years, impressing with his skills and creativity in the final third.

However, the club confirmed that they would be letting the player leave this summer providing a suitable offer comes in.

That will surely interest several Championship clubs with the likes of Leeds United and Nottingham Forest linked with the player in the past.

Speaking to the official site, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony revealed he couldn't stop Maddison playing at a higher level.

"He has had an incredible career with the Posh and it is only right that I stick to my word and give him the best chance possible to further his ambitions of playing further up the football pyramid so with sadness today (Thursday), I can confirm he is available for transfer.”

He hit eight goals for the side this season.

The Verdict

This was to be expected as in all honesty, Peterborough did well to get another year out of Maddison.

There's surely going to be a lot of Championship interest as he has the ability to enhance a lot of squads in the second tier.

Now it's down to those clubs to agree a deal with the League One club who will still expect a good fee even though they're resigned to losing their key man.
