Former Middlesbrough and Stoke City boss Tony Pulis is the favourite to take charge at Sheffield Wednesday according to Sky Sports.

It is also claimed that the 62-year-old has held preliminary talks with the Owls over becoming their new manager, as they look to turn around their poor start to this year's campaign.

Garry Monk was previously in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, but was relieved of his duties after winning just once in their last six matches this term.

Wednesday are currently sat 23rd in the Championship table after having their 12-point deduction reduced to six points recently after a hearing.

But it's set to be an interesting few weeks ahead during the international break, with the club now looking to appoint a new manager.

Pulis has been out of work since the summer of 2020, after his contract wasn't renewed with Middlesbrough, after he took them to a 17th-place finish in the second-tier.

A second round of talks between Pulis and Sheffield Wednesday are set to take place in the next 48 hours according to Sky Sports.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to return to action after the international break when they take on play-off chasing Preston North End at Deepdale, in what is certain to be a tough test for the Owls.

The Verdict:

I like the sound of this.

I'm not surprised in the slightest to hear that Pulis is the favourite to take charge at Sheffield Wednesday, as he's a manager that has a proven track record in the Championship.

The likes of Sol Campbell doesn't have any experience at this level, and Pulis is much more suited to the job at Hillsborough as they look to push themselves up the second-tier standings at the earliest of opportunities.

Sheffield Wednesday need a manager that can motivate and get the best out of an underperforming group of players, and I think Pulis fits that description perfectly.
