Sheffield United will be boosted by the return of Jack O’Connell in Monday’s Steel City derby, whilst John Egan and George Baldock will both be available to Chris Wilder.

O’Connell, who agreed a new long-term contract with the Blades yesterday, hasn’t featured in the last three Championship fixtures, with Wilder forced to shuffle his pack.

Despite that, the Blades have kept three consecutive clean sheets.

Wilder has confirmed to James Shield from the Sheffield Star that O’Connell will return, whilst Egan and Baldock will also be available to take on Sheffield Wednesday.

Richard Stearman replaced Egan at the break last weekend against West Bromwich Albion, with Wilder left sweating over his summer signing’s availability heading into Monday’s derby.

In addition to that, Baldock will offer an alternative to Kieron Freeman in the right wing-back role.

Sheffield United enter this clash on the back of three consecutive victories, with the Blades winning four of their last five.

However, they face a rejuvenated Owls side on Monday, with Steve Bruce unbeaten in the six games he’s taken charge of.

The Hillsborough outfit have also won their last two.

The Verdict

This is brilliant news for Wilder, with his squad almost at full strength for this weekend.

A makeshift defensive unit has done well in the absence of key personnel, but expect O’Connell, Egan and Chris Basham to be the back-three for the trip across Sheffield

That trio are an unbelievable unit and will be key to the side’s chance of promotion.
