Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that star striker Billy Sharp will definitely start against Leeds United this weekend, reports Richards Sutcliffe of the Yorkshire Post.
Sharp had been benched for the Blades’ last two matches but his manager has now revealed that was done with this weekend’s huge tie in mind.
Wilder says he has “held him back” ahead of the Yorkshire derby and it is a tactic that appears to have worked so far with the Blades beating both Rotherham United and Brentford in his absence.
United currently sit in third place in the Championship table, two points outside the automatic promotion places and behind Leeds and Norwich City, but can jump into the top two with a win at Elland Road.
The reverse fixture between the pair finished 1-0 to the Whites thanks to a Pablo Hernandez goal following an error from Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
As is common at this stage of the season, this feels like the biggest game of the campaign.
Win, and Leeds open up a five point gap on their opponents, one that will be hard to close in nine games.
Lose, however, and they drop out of the top-two and panic will undoubtedly set in among the fans again.
