Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers have sacked manager Steve McClaren, according to reliable journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 57-year old took the reins of the West London club at the end of last season, replacing Ian Holloway after a difficult campaign, culminating in a 16th place finish.

But with the club being hit with a transfer embargo before the season had even started, the former Newcastle United manager made the worst possible start to his tenure at Loftus Road, losing his opening four league games in charge of the R's, conceding 13 goals in the process.

They did eventually pick up losing just five of their next 22 league games, with a potential push for the play-offs becoming a possibility for the R's.

But after winning just one of his last 15 games in charge, reports have now emerged claiming that McClaren has indeed lost his job at Loftus Road, with a 2-1 home defeat to struggling Bolton Wanderers the final nail in his coffin.

The R's have fell dramatically down the Sky Bet Championship table, with the club sitting eight points clear of relegation in 17th spot.

The Verdict

It was always going to be hard for McClaren at Loftus Road when he first arrived.

The club were plagued with financial difficulties, and he was unable to mark his own stamp on the club having been unable to make any signings bar free transfers.

He did his best to breath new life into the club, bringing in some good signings such as Nahki Wells and Toni Leistner, but ultimately I believe this is the right call.
