Hull City are moving closer to agreeing a new contract for manager Nigel Adkins, it has been reported.

Adkins current deal at the KCOM Stadium is set to expire at the end of June, with The Tigers boss yet to agree to a deal that was first offered to him at the end of March.

Despite that, there does appear to be encouraging signs for Tigers fans, after the Hull Daily Mail reported that Adkins held positive talks over his future at Hull with the club's owners, the Allam family, on Tuesday.

The report claims talks between the two parties were positive, with both sides keen to agree to a deal that would bring a sense of stability to the club going forward, leading to a sense of optimism that Adkins will sign a new deal with the club.

That positive feeling has also reportedly been helped by the fact that neither the club nor Adkins are considering alternative options for the summer.

Since taking over at Hull in December 2017, Adkins has won 26 and lost 31 of his 78 games in charge of The Tigers, guiding them to 13th in the Championship table during his first full campaign in charge of the club this season.

The Verdict

This is a big boost for Hull.

Under Adkins this season they have moved away from being the relegation fodder that everyone expected them to be, establishing themselves comfortably in mid table.

Hull will not want to give that position up easily, and securing Adkins' future quickly will give him time to get the club ready to build on that next season in the upcoming transfer window.
