Derby County have confirmed that two Board of Directors have stepped down as the club appear to be closing in on receiving fresh investment.

Current owner Mel Morris has revealed regularly over the past few months that he is open to selling full or part of the Rams if it will benefit the club.

And, whilst there has been no concrete update on that, the east Midlands outfit have confirmed that directors David Williams and John Kirkland have left the club, with the former revealing it was because of new backing arriving when speaking to the official site.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Board but with the club preparing itself for potential new investment, I feel it is a natural step to move aside and allow my place on the Board for any new investor."

Morris also touched on that, thanking the duo for 'putting us in a position where we are very much ready for the next step forward'.

That will be welcome news for the fans who will be hoping for funds to be put into the playing squad in the January window if possible. Derby are currently 13th in the Championship and five points away from the play-offs.

The verdict

This is very exciting news for the Derby support as the fact Williams and Kirkland have left suggests something is imminent.

The comments from Williams back that up and it will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Even if they have to be patient, this is good for the Rams as it's clear Morris needs some help to try and take the club to the next level and it may be on the horizon.
