The join administrators at Bolton have revealed that an agreement has been reached with the preferred bidders as they look to sell the club.

After a disastrous period under former owner Ken Anderson, it was revealed last month that the Trotters had gone into administration - which will mean they start next season in League One on -12 points.

However, the major worry for all fans has been the future of the club and there was a positive update on that front, with an official statement by the joint administrators explaining the latest, although those set to buy the club can't be named just yet.

"For legal reasons, I cannot name the preferred bidder until Monday. But I realise just how important it is Bolton fans are given confidence we are now a major step closer to the sale of the club and securing its future.

"This has not always been a straightforward process owing mainly to the need to condense what would normally be a four to five month time frame into closer to seven weeks."

The Verdict

This is very good news for Bolton fans as it's a real step forward and fans will start to see light at the end of the tunnel now.

Of course, given how things have gone in the past, most won't be getting too carried away but at least there can be some optimism now.

Everyone involved in the process deserves credit because as the statement says, they have managed to sort this very quickly which is great news for the club as they look to prepare for next season.

More details are going to emerge next week but this is the news that the fans wanted.
