Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that their fixture with Brentford at the University of Bolton Stadium will now not take place this season, handing the Bees a 1-0 win by default, they confirmed on their official club website

The fixture was cancelled last weekend after the Trotters' first-team squad went on strike after not being paid although the clash was expected to be rescheduled.

It is just the latest in a long line of off-field problems the Lancashire club have gone through this season as owner Ken Anderson continues to try and sell the club.

On Thursday it was announced that the proposed takeover with former owner Laurence Bassini had been called off after he once again failed to show the EFL he had sufficient funds to run the club.

Phil Parkinson's side had their relegation confirmed over the Easter weekend with losses to Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers confirming their fate.

The verdict

I am surprised it took this long to come to this conclusion.

With the game meaning next to nothing for Brentford they were never likely to want to play the away match after it had been cancelled the first time.

I doubt that Bolton are particularly fussed either. Although it remains to be seen what punishment will come with this failure to fulfil their fixtures.
