Birmingham City have finally been taken over according to talkSport, with the website revealing that their new owner is set to be Maxi Lopez.

The future of the Blues has been up in the air for some time now, with the club's supporters growing tired and unhappy with the current regime at St Andrew's.

Now, it looks like there could finally be a refresh at the top and in the race to snap up the club and become the new owners, it appears as though Maxi Lopez has won and will become the new man at the helm with Birmingham.

It had been a close call between the former player and Laurence Bassini over the last few weeks as to who would end up buying the side. It has swung both ways but it is Lopez who has won out, according to this report.

Bassini had been the frontrunner for quite some time too, with the man looking dead set to buy them out. However, he hasn't been able to get a deal over the line and it has allowed Lopez - who is working with Paul Richardson amongst a gaggle of other people - to get a takeover completed and take the reins at the side.

Now, with a takeover seemingly done, it should allow Birmingham and their fans to focus on their results on the pitch. It should allow the club to really focus in on the transfer market now, reshuffle their squad accordingly and perhaps think about pushing up the Championship table now in the next campaign.
