Bristol Live are reporting that Newport County manager Michael Flynn is thought to be keen on taking Bristol City youngster Antoine Semenyo on loan as the League Two side harbour hopes of getting closer toward the play-off places.

Semenyo spent a spell on loan with Newport last season, linking up with them in the summer and scoring six goals in 33 games across all competitions as he played a part in the League Two outfit reaching the FA Cup Fifth Round before being recalled by the Robins in January.

The 19-year-old has plenty of talent, having attracted Chelsea with a £2 million price tag over his head in January, as well as being in and around the first-team squad at Ashton Gate.

He has made nine appearances for the Robins this season but is yet to find the net, as he has also warmed the bench 13 times without featuring for Lee Johnson's team.

The City gaffer Johnson was open about Semenyo's situation last week, stating that he could be a player that is sent out on loan next month with the words seemingly having piqued interest from the striker's former club.

The Verdict

The striker needs a run of games during the second half of the season to try and get his confidence back, and spending five months at Newport could be the perfect place for him to do it.

Semenyo has the talent to compete at League Two level, as he proved last season, and a return to familiar surroundings having developed his game over the past 12 months will aid Newport in the short term.
