Sunderland will be hoping they can make a timely return to the Championship this season under the guidance of Phil Parkinson.

The Black Cats are currently sat seventh in the League One table after a slight dip in form earlier this year. However, they are just three points adrift of second-placed Rotherham United, which goes to show that it's going to be a closely-fought battle to win promotion this term.

Due to recent events, the EFL have recently announced that fixtures won't get back underway until deemed safe enough to do so.

This has led to concerns over contracts that are set to expire in June, with the current season likely to be extended into the summer.

One Sunderland player that is out-of-contract heading into the summer is Duncan Watmore, who has struggled for regular minutes for the Black Cats this season.

The winger has had a number of injury problems to deal with for much of his senior career, and he'll be hoping for clarity on his future at the earliest of opportunities with the promotion-chasing League One side.

Plenty of Sunderland fans took to the 'Sunderland 'Till I Die' Facebook Group to issue their thoughts on whether Watmore should be offered a new deal at the end of this year's campaign.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below....

Sean Northage: "For me it all depends on him staying fit."

David Gilbey: "Massive pay reduction pay as you play. Average League One player."

Billy McMurrough: "Sicknote."

Simon Gray: "Offers nothing at all, head down and run when fit. Shame as he had potential to be quality."

Liam Roberts: "Definitely not."

Craig Morley: "Not a chance."

Wade Wallace: "Rather they gave me nan's sisters uncles cousin’s three-legged dog a contract."

Chris Hugall: "As long as it’s on division one wages, I would keep him."

Eric Plumridge: "Will be shipped out as he has not anywhere been near to his potential. Too many injuries!"

Ian Gill: "No! He's a wage thief."
