Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the signing of Chey Dunkley, after the defender left Sheffield Wednesday, on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old has a wealth of experience playing for the likes of Wigan Athletic and the Owls in his career, and he'll be looking to bring that to the Shrews for next season.

Indeed, it looks a decent signing on paper and Shrews fans will be excited to see what Dunkley can bring to their team, with him moving on from Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the summer.

Dunkley has signed a two year deal with the club, as per their official website, with the option of another year on top of that, and so it's clear the Shrews believe in what he can offer them as a player.

The Verdict

This looks a decent signing for Shrewsbury, and supporters will obviously hope that that is what plays out.

He's an experienced defender and the Shrews have beaten some other League One clubs to get him, so that is a feather in their cap.

He had a few injury problems at Sheffield Wednesday but if he can stay fit he is a thoroughly decent defender, particularly at this level, and that is what Shrews fans will want to see.
