Grimsby Town have confirmed that an agreement has been reached between the club and Shrewsbury over manager Paul Hurst, who is to be appointed as Shrewsbury’s new gaffer.

Hurst, who guided Grimsby to promotion back to the Football League last season, joins Shrewsbury who are rock bottom of League One.

Hurst was absent from Grimsby’s 1-0 loss to Cheltenham on Saturday following speculation surrounding his future. The Mariners in 8th place in League Two, just outside the play-off places, having picked up 6 wins from their opening 14 league matches.

Shrewsbury have been without a manager since Mickie Mellon departed for Conference side Tranmere Rovers earlier this month, but Paul Hurst, along with assistant Chris Doig will join the Shrews.

The 42 year old boss will kick off his reign as Shrewsbury manager away to Southend United on Saturday, and is tasked with steering the side away from the relegation places.
