Rajiv van La Parra has emerged as a transfer target for QPR heading into the summer transfer window according to the Daily Mail.

The winger has been a free-agent since his deal with Serbian side Red Star Belgrade came to an end in March 2020, when both parties agreed to terminate his contract.

Van La Parra is a name that some supporters in the Championship will remember well, having previously played for Huddersfield Town.

The 28-year-old made 102 appearances in total for the Terriers, and played a key role in their promotion-winning season into the Premier League in the 2016/17 campaign.

The report from the Daily Mail also claims that the likes of Millwall, Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City are also interested in securing a deal for van La Parra.

A move to QPR could be a tempting proposition for van La Parra as well, with the Hoops in with a chance of finishing the season inside the top-six in the Championship.

But would van La Parra be a good signing for QPR in the summer?

We discuss....

George Harbey:

Mark Warburton surely has to be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, especially out wide, with Bright Osayi-Samuel likely to attract interest and his future in West London looking uncertain.

Van La Parra is a really quick, powerful winger who has thrived in the Championship before, and his pace and power would really suit Warburton’s style of play first and foremost which is what a manager obviously looks for in a new signing.

He has experience of winning promotion from this level following his time at Wolves and Huddersfield Town, so that could also give QPR an extra edge as they look to go one step further and push for a top-six finish next season.

Personally, though, I do think his end product needs working on as I can’t see him contributing to many goals as Osayi-Samuel has contributed to this season, and his time at Middlesbrough does worry me as he often went missing in games under Tony Pulis.

Ned Holmes:

This looks like it could be a very shrewd bit of business from QPR.

Rumours have circled about the futures of both Ebere Eze and Bright Osayi-Samuel, so it makes a lot of sense for Mark Warburton to look to strengthen his attacking options.

Van La Parra has proven his quality at this level before, the question is whether or not QPR can help him recapture that form.

The open style of football that Warburton has instilled since taking charge would likely fit the 28-year-old, so it could be an ideal match.

Given the events of the last few months, money may be tight in the upcoming window, so a free agent signing is a huge bonus.

George Dagless:

It could be clever business but I'd probably reserve judgement.

We know what he can bring to a side in the second tier and we know he has experience of challenging at the sharp end of the Championship.

If they don't go up, QPR will want to add such knowhow and, with them possessing a pretty young side, adding some experience wouldn't be a bad idea this summer.

Is he the player he was when he was at his best at the moment, though? I'd argue probably not and it all depends on whether Mark Warburton can draw that out of him.

He's got time to still have a good few years playing at this level but it just seems as though he's gone a bit quiet from his peak and, if his best days are already behind him, perhaps the R's would be best off trying to get a younger alternative through the doors.
