According to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Mick McCarthy would be Stoke City's prime candidate to replace manager Nathan Jones, if the latter is sacked by the club.

The Potters have endured a dire start to the season and are still searching for their first league win of the season, with the pressure piling on the Welshman.

And, if Jones is to be sacked by Stoke, then The Athletic claim that McCarthy would be their number one choice to replace the former Luton Town manager.

McCarthy's last managerial spell in club football came with Ipswich Town, where he won 105 out of 279 games in charge of the Tractor Boys, during a six-year stay at Portman Road.

But the 60-year-old's time at Portman Road turned sour towards the end, where he resigned midway through a press conference after his relationship with fans broke down.

He is now the manager of the Republic of Ireland national side, and it is believed that he has no intentions of leaving before the European Championships in 2020.

Here, we take a look at Stoke fans' reactions to this latest news...
