Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment as head-coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers went largely under the radar this summer, but some clever business mixed with some high-profile signings, has seen the Molineux club emerge as one of the Sky Bet Championship’s favourites for promotion.

Wolves have enjoyed a fast start to the season, with Nuno’s side impressing both at home and on the road, playing an exciting brand of football and making their fans believe that 2018 could be the year they return to the Premier League.

The likes of Middlesbrough and Aston Villa started the season as favourites for promotion, and whilst both still might challenge, Wolves’ summer business and start to the season has seen their odds cut with the bookmakers.

It is hard to look past the arrival of £15m Ruben Neves as the turning point in Wolves’ fortunes, with the midfielder so far key to everything Nuno’s side has done well.

On-loan stars such as Willy Boly and Diogo Jota have impressed in defence and attack respectively, whilst John Ruddy looks like a shrewd signing, with the former goalkeeper impressing between the sticks.

There is the potential for another arrival before the end of the transfer window, with Wolves looking to sign a high-profile forward, which would provide Nuno with the missing piece of his jigsaw and give Wolves a more natural goalscoring threat.

It remains to be seen who arrives at Molineux between now and the end of the transfer window, but whatever happens, after slipping under the radar for much of the summer, Wolves are now certainly among the favourites for promotion this season.
