Massimo Cellino’s time at Leeds United has officially come to an end this summer, but the club and Andrea Radrizzani remain picking up the pieces from his controversial tenure as the club’s president.

Three-years ago, Cellino was preparing for his first full season at Elland Road, and was extremely active in the transfer market, bringing a host of foreign players to Leeds, including the likes of Giuseppe Bellusci, Mirco Antenucci and Marco Silvestri.

As the years have ticked, on a number of those players recruited that particular summer have left Leeds, with only Gaetano Berardi, Souleymane Doukara and Silvestri remaining from the foreign arrivals three years ago.

Berardi and Doukara have proved to be more than useful to Leeds in recent years, but Silvestri found himself out-of-favour during the 2016/17 season and journalists close to the club expect the Italian goalkeeper to move on this summer.

With the Italian’s time at Elland Road looking like coming to an end, Silvestri’s next move should be to another English team, if he is serious about reaching his potential and wants to iron out the problems that are currently in his game.

During his two-years within the Leeds first-team, Silvestri’s performances were inconsistent, and for every world-class save, there was always a howler just around the corner from the 26-year old.

Those mistakes usually came from a lack of communication or his inability to command his area – both things that can be worked on in the future.

What Silvestri does posses is excellent shot stopping, which is something that comes naturally to most goalkeepers and cannot be coached at any level.

Cellino and Leeds obviously saw potential in Silvestri, which is why he has spent three-years in West Yorkshire, but it is time for the goalkeeper to pursue a fresh challenge away from Elland Road.

Should Silvestri leave Leeds, he must stay in England and avoid any temptation to move back to Europe, as with the right coaching, which he will receive in England, the 26-year old has the potential to become an exceptional goalkeeper.
