Nottingham Forest are reportedly keen on signing Rangers defender Connor Goldson on a pre-contract.

That's according to the Scottish Sun, who have reported that Forest and West Bromwich Albion are both vying to sign Goldson on a pre-contract – meaning he would join them in the summer.

But would he be a good signing for the Reds? And do they need him?

Our FLW writers share their thoughts...

Goldson signing for Forest would be a big addition for the team. The defender won the Scottish Premiership under Steven Gerrard last season as a core part of a backline that only conceded 13 times in the entire league campaign.

Goldson also has experience in the Europa League, as well as at the top level of the Championship with Brighton.

That is an amazing level of experience to gain for the side as it pushes for a play-off position.

He should slot right into Steve Cooper’s side and immediately improve their defensive strength.

At 29-years old he still also has plenty of years left in the tank, with any physical decline likely still a few years away.

I think it would be a great signing all around really.

Goldson has all the qualities of a modern-day centre-back and would certainly add some extra experience to the Forest backline.

Add to the fact that the Reds have a good existing relationship with the Gers after Joe Worrall’s loan move to Ibrox and there could be a way in for them to get this deal done sooner rather than later.

He’s out of contract in the summer, so a pre-contract agreement must certainly be under consideration.

This would be a great move if Forest can pull it out the bag.

Forest have already signed one centre-back in Steve Cook this month so it's a surprise to see that they're looking at another one.

Joe Worrall's rib injury may be the reason for this but Goldson coming in wouldn't exactly be a short-term measure - he's an experienced player who has been a real key figure for Rangers in the last few years.

Goldson could be a replacement for Tobias Figueiredo potentially and if he is that means there are four really good centre-backs available - with Goldson challenging Worrall, Cook, and Scott McKenna for starting spots.

Regardless of what league Forest are in next year it should mean that they have a very commanding back three but you'd have to question if Goldson is Premier League quality at 29 years old.

But for a Championship side, Goldson should be a very solid addition - especially on a free transfer if a pre-contract can be arranged.
