Aston Villa drew 2-2 with Hull City this afternoon in a game they could, and perhaps should have lost.
The visitors almost took a two goal lead into half time courtesy of Jarrod Bowen and Evandro Goebel, but James Chester pulled one back just before the break for Dean Smith’s side.
Hull would have been good value for the win, but they were denied thanks to a Tammy Abraham strike in the second half. It keeps up their good run of form, but leaves Villa languishing in 12th place, seven points adrift of the play-off spots.
There’s bound to be a negative reaction after such a result and Villa fans have been quick to take to social media to offer their thoughts on Conor Hourihane. He played in a holding midfield role and hasn’t impressed many of those commenting on Twitter.
He did curl a late free kick over the bar, but on the whole his input has not been warmly received by the fans on social media. Here’s what they’re saying this evening about the former Barnsley man.
Hourihane is a static lovers dream. A very average player

Hourihane is not a holding midfielder, simple as that.

Too much to analyse in that Villa team. McGinn and Abraham the only sparks. Hourihane and Bjarnasson are absolutely atrocious, Chester can’t pass for toffee and Neil Taylor is Neil Taylor. 7 points the distance and it’s out of sight for me! #avfc

Not good enough, first half cost us, need a whole new defence as we concede goals for fun. Hourihane absolutely shocking today, feel sorry for Tammy, he has a great attitude and feel sorry for the bloke https://t.co/4469mDSD5A

Hourihane and Bjarnsson should never play for the Villa again

Much better second half without really creating many clear cut opportunities. Individual mistakes costing us every single week. I really hope this keeper isn’t another potato. Hourihane poor again as for Bolasie ????. Elphick my MOTM #AVFC #UTV
