The Dutch stopper enjoyed a fine career, playing for several clubs in the UK, including Swansea, Wolves and Celtic as well as the Reds.
Whilst he may be best known for his time in Wales, de Vries also enjoyed three years at the City Ground, although he was only the number one for his final campaign in the east Midlands.
However, he impressed during his time in goal, with the keeper also very good on the ball that allowed the side to build from the back.
Therefore, it’s fair to say that the Forest fans appreciated what he did whilst at the club and they also valued his professionalism when he wasn’t always playing.
So, there was a lot of positive messages from the support when the club revealed de Vries had retired.
Here’s some of the reaction from Twitter…
My favourite GK we’ve had in my lifetime ❤️

Shame he left to warm the bench in Scotland. Decent keeper I would have liked to see stay another season or two.
