The comings and goings at Nottingham Forest continue with confirmation on the club website that midfielder Claudio Yacob has left the club by mutual consent and signed for Nacional in Uruguay, ending his current Forest deal six months early.

The 32-year-old Argentine international has not featured at all this season for Forest, with his last Reds appearance coming in April of last season in a 1-0 win over QPR, having joined Forest in September 2018 and going onto play a total of 17 matches.

But could Yacob have offered more in his time at the City Ground?

We discuss..........

Chris Gallagher

"It does seem harsh but the reality is that they've just got too many players.

"It was similar when Alexander Milosevic was released earlier this season. Like the Swede, Yacob is a good player at this level but Forest's squad is far too big and they needed to make some tough decisions to get it down to a more manageable level.

"Whilst the Argentinian has done well when called upon, the fact Forest are flying high in the Championship means Lamouchi's call not to use him has been justified. He can't really change a winning team and Samba Sow looks like an upgrade on Yacob.

"So, this is a move that makes sense even if it's natural to have some sympathy for the ex-West Brom man but he has already secured a club in South America."

“When Yacob joined Forest in 2018, expectations were rightfully high given his previous escapades for West Bromwich Albion.

“A mainstay in the Baggies starting eleven throughout his time at the Hawthorns, the midfielder was able to deliver the goods on a consistent basis in the Premier League.

“However, his move to Forest saw him fail to make a lasting impression at the City Ground as he only featured on 17 occasions before parting ways with the club yesterday.

“Having now made the switch to Uruguayan side Nacional, Yacob will be hoping to get his career back on track following what has been a difficult two years for the Argentine.”

George Harbey

"This is a departure that many Nottingham Forest fans would have expected this month, although I think that Yacob should feel hard done by as he prepares to return to his home country.

"Yacob arrived at the City Ground last season and instantly became a key player under Aitor Karanka, producing a string of classy, solid displays in the middle of the park under the Spaniard.

"But as soon as Karanka left, it was always going to be hard for Yacob to make an impact under Martin O'Neill and especially under Sabri Lamouchi in pre-season, having been previously frozen out on Trentside.

"Forest have so many talented players in the middle of the park, and even the likes of John Bostock and Ryan Yates aren't getting into the side due to the form of Samba Sow and Ben Watson.

"He is a solid, steady player, though, and sometimes you need them type of characters at the club to help you win promotion."
