Sheffield Wednesday really are taking one step forward and then one back at the moment in the Championship and that needs to change.

The Owls will once again feel a top six berth is achievable this season but there is certainly some work to do before that can be done.

Indeed, the men from Hillsborough lost at Bolton at the weekend and, amongst the shock and consternation, plenty of fans were beginning to call for the sacking of Carlos Carvalhal.

Certainly, then, the Portuguese manager has work to do to try and turn things around before it is too late and we're wondering, though Owls fans might not like it, whether it's time he takes a leaf out of Chris Wilder's book.

For sure, though Wilder has not been under pressure with Sheffield United this season, he still took the risk to bring in young David Brooks - something that Owls fans will know all too well worked.

But, with that in mind, isn't it time that Carvalhal brought in his brightest young gem - George Hirst - to the Wednesday line-up?

The Owls have a bit of a shortage for goal-scorers at this present time and with them looking short on the confidence needed to build momentum to a point where it looks a bit like fear at times, the youth of Hirst would be a great tonic.

Sure, he's very young and raw but he would relish the chance, he's scored goals for fun at the younger levels and there's going to come a point where he feels as though he's good enough to be a senior star somewhere.

Carvalhal needs to show he is aware of his talents, and now could be the perfect time.
