QPR are interested in Wigan striker Will Keane, according to a report from The Sun

The 29-year-old won the League One golden boot last season by scoring 26 goals as he helped the Latics win the third tier title and secure their return to the Championship.

Keane is said to be valued at around £1 million, with the R’s among the clubs keen.

But would he be a good signing for the west London club? And do they need him?

In what year did Kevin Gallen make his Premier League debut with QPR?

This does not seem like the right move for either party at this stage.

Keane has had an outstanding season with the Latics, coming from the back of the pack to claim the third tier golden boot, but he is unproven as a Championship goalscorer.

It feels like a very good fit at Wigan under Leam Richardson, and that that environment has been the most influential thing in Keane’s stark improvement in 2021/22, rather than him suddenly becoming a player capable of competing in the top half of the second tier, which is where QPR will be aiming next term.

Including loans, Keane has already changed clubs eight times in his career, and at 29 he should not sacrifice everything he has achieved at Wigan for a QPR return.

Additionally, Rangers should be looking for better if they want to push for the top six again.

It’s an intriguing one.

I think Keane had a fine season and so obviously deserves a shot in the Championship but I think maybe him remaining at Wigan and showing what he can do after their promotion would be the better play here.

He’s a player that seems to be enjoying his time with the Latics and I would argue that sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side in his personal circumstances.

I do think QPR would be wiser looking at a more proven player at this level as well.

Will Keane would be an interesting proposition for QPR this summer.

The R’s are certainly light in the striking department having released Charlie Austin and following Andre Gray’s return to Watford following his Loftus Road loan spell.

His numbers in League One were very impressive this campaign just gone and if he could carry half of those to Championship level, he could be a good addition to QPR’s frontline.

With one year left on his current Wigan deal, QPR may get him for a reasonable fee, too.

I think all things considered, particularly the R’s current lack of depth in the striking department, Keane could be a good addition to QPR this summer.
