‘Should be a player-manager’ – Loads of Oldham Athletic fans react as exciting new appointment is confirmed

Oldham Athletic have had a tricky time of it in League Two this season, currently sat in 15th place with 30 matches played.

They are nine points off the pace in the play-off race but 14 points clear of relegation trouble as well, meaning that an uneventful run-in is the likeliest of outcomes.

But an exciting announcement was made on Monday morning as the appointment of Manchester United legend Paul Scholes as manager was confirmed.

Scholes, who made over 700 appearances for the Red Devils, winning over 20 major titles, replaces Frankie Bunn who was relieved of his duties at the end of December.

The 44-year-old follows in the footsteps of Frank Lampard at Derby and Steven Gerrard at Rangers as legendary Premier League midfielders to step into management this season.

Whilst there is no guarantee that Scholes will be a success, given his lack of managerial experience, it is an appointment that got the Oldham fans very excited nonetheless.

Here is what they had to say…
