Bournemouth have reportedly set a £15 million asking price for midfielder Lewis Cook amid interest from Leeds United.

The Cherries bought Cook from the Whites in 2016 for an initial fee of £6 million.

However, with Leeds having secured promotion and Bournemouth heading back down to the Championship, the Yorkshire club are thought to be keen to bring the midfielder back to Elland Road.

According to Football Insider, the South Coast club have slapped a £15 million price-tag on Cook.

But is that a good deal? And is he worth the money?

We asked our FLW writers for their thoughts...

Alfie Burns

As much as I rate Cook, I wouldn’t be paying that much for him.

The midfielder has had a number of injury problems over the course of the last few seasons and could do with a full year in the Championship to get himself back to his best.

£15 million is a lot of money for Leeds, but central midfield isn’t an area that needs strengthening this summer.

If someone comes in, it won’t be for £15 million and I’d expect it won’t be someone of Cook’s profile.

Leeds need a striker, creative midfielder and a centre-back. They are the priorities and everyone at Elland Road recognises that.

Are these 10 facts about Leeds United actually true?

I think that Leeds should look to avoid sentiment here.

There can be no denying that Cook is a huge talent who has seamlessly fitted into life in the Premier League really well indeed, and he has made huge strides of improvement since departing Elland Road for Bournemouth.

Whether Leeds need to bring in another central midfielder this summer, though, is another question. If he is fit, then Kalvin Phillips should start every game in defensive midfield, and I'd question whether Cook is creative enough to start alongside Mateusz Klich in attacking midfield, as it's not really his game.

£15 million is also a lot of money for a bottom-half Premier League side to pay, especially when this summer, clubs are likely to be reluctant in their spending and aren't going to want to overpay on players, and it would also be a big chunk of Leeds' transfer budget, you'd imagine.

I think there are other areas of the squad that need improving, and Leeds shouldn't be looking to sign Cook because of the reactions it would draw from supporters.

I think it's worth paying.

Cook has already shown that he's more than capable of playing his football regularly in the Premier League, so I'm not surprised to see that Leeds are eyeing a move for him.

He's previously played for Leeds as well, so you have to imagine that he'll be tempted by a return to Elland Road, especially now that they're playing in the top-flight next term.

Leeds will know that they have to fork out relatively high transfer fees to attract players to the club, as they prepare for life back in the top-flight.

They can't afford to try and sign players on the cheap, as that simply won't be doable in the current market.

Marcelo Bielsa can certainly get the best out of Cook though, and he'd definitely be capable of challenging the likes of Klich for his starting spot if he signed for the club.

It should be a no-brainer to push ahead with their reported interest in signing the midfielder.
